He would live in a tiny house.
His folks would live nearby.
He would have a wife
And some babies of his own.
He wouldn't need much.
Simple gifts of life, love, and family.
Good books.
Bluegrass music.
Food on the table.
Friends to share the bounty.
He would sleep beneath a cloudless, starry sky.
Rising at dawn to rays of sunshine
Streaming through the windows.
The bluebird of happiness
Would nest in the rafters.
And its beautiful song would
Be carried on the breeze for
All to hear.
He would live in a tiny house.

Diane,
Beautiful. My heart aches for you. I did not know Nick, but from reading your blog, this would have been him. We all should be blessed with such a simply and lovely life. Your talent is amazing. I usually struggle with poetry, but I feel every word of this. Thank You Diane for sharing.
Love,
Mary
Hi Diane,
You don't know me, but I know a friend of your son's - I just want to share my deepest condolences with you - I am so, so sorry for what you have been going through and my heart breaks for the pain you are surely feeling.
I know it isn't the same, but my grandfather lost his wife of 60 years - my grandmother - a few months after your son passed away. I watched as the strong man I knew crumbled and spent his days crying and drowning in sorrow. It's been almost a year now, and slowly...very slowly... I've seen him piece his life back together. It's so hard to lose someone we love, someone that is so deeply a part of us. But sadly, unfair as it may be, it does happen. No one will ever replace Nick, and no one will ever forget the amazing, caring, strong mother that you were to him. You have so many people that care about and love you and are pulling for you, and whether you realize it or not, each and every day you are growing a little stronger. I sincerely hope that you try to see the beauty that is still around you even if it comes in fleeting moments - from what I have read, I know your son would want you to. Your writing is beautiful, and I hope you never stop! I hope that it gives you relief to pen your thoughts and emotions down.
Again, I am so sorry for what you've had to endure. As much as you miss Nick, remember that he is no longer suffering. He is somewhere beautiful, eating his favorite foods, watching fireworks, listening to music at Bonnaroo. And someday, you will be there too. I believe this.
Hang in there, Diane. Keep on breathing, writing, and allowing yourself to feel - you will not forget, but you will heal. One day at a time, you are doing it. I admire your strength.
All my love.
It is such a beautiful poem. I never knew Nick but from what you have written about him, I think this captures him perfectly.
thinking of you.
